Prva očekivana pobjeda večeri je mlada Ariana DeBose za ulogu Anite u Spielbergovom remakeu mjuzikla West Side Story. DeBose već je osvojila BAFTA-u i SAG pa su više manje svi znali da će se ovo dogoditi. Iako je publika, sudeći prema reakcijama, očito naginjala Aunjanue Ellis, očito je da Akademija ne misli isto.
